LOL yeah it takes some time to unpack, remember you need 6GB free space to allow it to unpack everything! As you've seen, you need to be patient but you will get ALL the files.

ALready unpacking some of the CS database files. Ive already used my own sounds from SoC in CS, such as weapons. Also edited the weapon files and so.

Next thing is the Weather Ltx from CS, i dont enjoy the weather pretty much.. To bright the night and some passages in the Climax

Only problem till now is some textures that CS uses or sizes or even type of file. having problem with Scopes = / ..Heh

If you've unpacked and then installed an update patch, you will need to unpack again so you can then get the newer files that the patch adds and/or changes to the game. Once the files are unpacked now you have all the actual scripts, xml, ogg, etc. You can now edit files you wish to change for the purpose of your own mod. To allow a modded file to work you will need to change your FSGAME.LTX and create the needed gamedata folder.

You do not pack it. You just need to make a gamedata folder in the game's main directory. As the game unpacks it creates the proper folder structure, so you just need to recreate this same structure and place the files in it. After you make the change in the FSGAME.ltx file, the game will look for files here in the gamedata folder and use them first, before it looks in the .db files.

If you are using Vista, the game's installer is probably defective like it was for me. I told it to install in c:Clear Sky, but the installer decided that it wanted to install it into cstick out tonguerogram Files (x86)... so the .bat file that comes with this need to be edited. You can do this with any text editor and need to do this before you copy it into the game's directory. I suggest just changing it to this:

for /D %%i in (..*) do (
for %%f in (%%i*.db*) do (
converter.exe -unpack -xdb %%i%%f -dir c:unpacked
for %%f in (..patches*.db*) do (
converter.exe -unpack -xdb %%f -dir c:unpacked

Make a folder called unpacked in your root directory (c:/) and then just run the .bat from like normal and all the unpacked files will be placed into c:unpacked.

Can't get it to work, it just runs and says "hit any key to continue" after like 500 lines of text.

Sigh, I keep getting BSOD when I use it frown
Its not my RAM either.. I regularly rip DVDs and whatnot without any probs, and do a lot of video/sound encoding/decoding, and that is a hell of a lot more memory consuming!
What could be the prob?

Also wanted to correct something. People keep asking how does it take up 6GB if it's only 3GB or so after unpacking all the files. Remember all the files are unpacked to a temp folder before unpacking to where you tell it to unpack. So 6GB is just temporary. Once all the unpacking of files is complete the temp ones are deleted, giving you a total of approx. 3GB of unpacked files.

To use the files, you don't edit and repack them. You simply use the GAMEDATA folder to run your edited files out of, just like you would a mod.

Ok I'm quoting "true_blue" here...

"Hovering over the folder it gives a summary size of around 3GB.. but if you right click and goto properties, the folder is over 5GB.
4.79 GB (5,152,948,655 bytes) for me."

Shame it has to go and unpack everything, i only wanted to extract the weapon sounds for ogg comment transfer.

Speaking of which, it'd be nifty if someone could code a program that inputs a target folder of custom .ogg files, reads the names of the .ogg sounds (which will correspond to the original weapon sound filenames), references the ogg comments from a folder of already commented files designated as the base to be copied, and then applies the original comments over the new files. That would save having to individually copy comments over from vanilla ogg files.

You could even take a folder of ogg files commented from someone else that are better than the vanilla comments.

Hmmm, does anyone have a mirror link? (could be by pm if that's not welcome here)
Or perhaps someone can reupload it....The link doesn't seem to be working anymore though it could just be temporary.

Not sure where and what to look for but I get the following errors and 'unpacked' directory is never created, no matter what. I have granted full control and all the file permissions to my 'stalker' directory, User Account Control is disabled just in case, I've also searched my entire system to check if the stuff is unpacked elsewhere but it's not... Anybody has any suggestions / ideas how to fix this, please? Many thanks in advance!
