Disable Grass (Transparent ReTex) (1.0) - File Description

This mod simply disables visual grass by replacing the existing textures with a 100% opaque set that makes it 'vanish' from ingame render. This does NOT affect bushes and larger flora, only Grass (manipulated by detail slider).

I made this for myself since my computer can't keep up with the better graphical features, so I simply cut the losses and disable grass completely to inch a better framerate, and eliminate the rather silly 'end grass' render as I run across the zone!

And lastly...

Enjoy! big grin

Readme File:
Name: Disable Grass (Transparent ReTex)
Version: 1.0
Date: 2010.2.20
Requirements: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (Any Version)
Author: Serenade28 (Serenade01@hotmail.com)

This mod simply disables visual grass by replacing the existing
texture with a 100% opaque set to make the visuals 'disappear'

1. Extract the gamedata folder to your
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat directory.

2. Change the $game_data$ line in fsgame.ltx to look like below:
$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$| gamedata

Compatibility to other mods
Some mods that retexture or rework the scenery might use the
same file (White Mod, or CoPGreen). To install this properly,
install your graphical mods of choice, than overwrite them
with these variants.

Delete the following files from your gamedata directory

I notice in the last two screenshots the frames per second is higher in the one with normal grass. My computer is slow so I'm wondering does it really improve the framerate?

Ok so the mod is changing the textures but not removing the polygons themselves?
I don't think this will increase performance unless the engine ignores polygons with textures that are completely opaque. I don't think it does.

Well, since the textures aro small or even to no size it should affect the performance. They use less video memory. Rock

Doesn't the grass slider at minimum in the video options essentially do what this mod does, but in a proper sort of way?

I must admit, this was one of the most frustrating problems with the graphical content of all three games. The rendering is pathetic. Even if I have the viewing distance dropped down to create 'fog of war', or whatever you want to call it, that stupid grass rendering failure really gets on my nerves.

I agree, it's almost worth just getting rid of it. I mean, the graphics aren't really that good in this game anyway any more. If you compare this to Bioshock2, Far Cry 2 or even Crysis it looks more like a 1990's game.

Although, as others have said, the slider will allow this feature to be almost non-existent anyway. Top marks for initiative though dude. big grin

Love this mod, the grass texture popping cannot be solved with game settings, no matter where you place the grass density slider. This is the only thing that will fix the horrible grass popping which spoils the game no matter how fast your gaming machine is. Thanks for solving this problem and please, please make one for STALKER and Clear Sky as well.

What you all have to do is resize the pic to 1x1 pixel, that saves the polygon problem, because it loads for every grass object in game the texture, that is transparent and 1x1px. So less memory load.

Great work, simple but effective. This mod is great for older computers like mine. big grin
