Description:
The aim of this Mod is to provide enhanced and rebalanced game play for Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, with out straying to far from (my interpretation of) the developers original intent. This is not a realism mod, I have rebalanced many aspects including the weapons and ballistics to what I consider to be fair to gameplay, not necessarily realistic. This mod has only been tested for balance on the 'Master' skill setting, so I have disabled all other settings.


What does all this mean for you?
This mod enhances the retail version of Stalker through improved; graphics, sound, performance, balance, AI/A-life, day/night weather, weapon ballistics & ragdolls, quests, trading, unique items, text/interaction, interactivety, artifacts, health & sleep system, options, hidden secrets, bug fixes and generaly removes a lot of the things that just really annoy. Intro:
This is a compilation mod that combines some of the best features from an array of Stalker Mini-Mods and several slightly larger mods aswell as numerous tweaks, improvments and customizations of my own.


Aim:
The aim of this Mod is to provide enhanced and rebalanced game play for Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, with out straying to far from (my interpretation of) the developers original intent. Important info:
- This mod is only balanced for Master difficulty, if you wish to re-activate the lower skill settings, then details are provided below, however I cannot garantee that they will be balanced.
- This mod will only work with Eng Launguge, due to custom text entries and custom text strings.
- You must also take note of the included Float32 license.
- To change the keybinding for the anti rad hotkey, see the included readme for HeEr0`s STALKER Keys MOD v0.1
- Only tested on Full Dynamic Lighting, details below if you use static lighting.


Install infomation
1. Simply paste the included Gamedata folder into your S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl directory.
2. Also place the other assosiated files into the same directory (it's ok to overwrite fsgame.ltx)
3. Create a shortcut to S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Rebalanced v1.0.bat on your desktop (easiest way, right click on it, choose: send to - desktop). Now right click on your new desktop short cut and choose rename, delete the "shortcut to" text and the ".bat" at the end, then right click again and choose properties, change icon, browse, navigate to your stalker directory and choose the stalker.ico file. ok to finish.
4. Next place the user.ltx file into your C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsSTALKER-SHOC directory (Vista & Steam users, place into your appropriate folder)
5. Download and install S.H.A.R.P.E.R Textures 0.95 from http://board.oblivion-lost.de/showthread.php?t=10034
6. If you play on the r1 Static Lighting DX8 Renderer, then you will also want to install Trojanuch's "S.W.O.v2.0 STATIC LIGHTING DEDICATED" from: http://files.filefront.com/SWOv20+LITErar/;9593546;/fileinfo.html

Notes:
- - Step 2: fsgame.ltx is only necessary if this is your first time using a mod for Stalker, otherwise it dosn't matter.
- - Step 3 is necessary for the "Anti-Rad Hotkey" to work.
- - Step 4 is only necessary if you wish to use my graphics tweaks for the r2 Full Dynamic Lighting DX9 Renderer (reccomended). If you don't want to have to change your keys back to normal afterwards, then just copy/paste (or merge) all the settings that begiun with r2, r__, rs & snd ensuring that you don't copy any that start with bind. Default resolution is 1280x1024.
- - Step 5, if you choose to download and install Sharper Textures 0.95 (which I can't stress enough), ensure that none of the Stalker Rebalanced files under the gamedatatextures directory are overwritten.
- - If you wish to play on a lower skill setting, simply delete the file gamedatascriptsui_main_menu.script & gamedataconfigtextengui_st_mm.xml.
- - If you play on a widescreen, set to your native resolution, then exit to windows and restart. Otherwise the mini-map will not show up in-game.
- - If you want to use another version of float32, ensure that you don't overwrite Sky4ce's Parallax Occlusion Mapping files, being: shadersr2common.h, sload.h, deffer_base_lmh_bump_d-hq.ps, deffer_base_lmh_bump-hq.ps and the `shared` folder.
- - Knowen issues for the custom menu are, you can't use the "Last Save" button when you first load up stalker from windows, it's sweet once you're in-game though. If you do click it, just type in main_menu to return. So, if you prefer the vanilla Menu, then delete gamedatatexturesuiui_mainmenu.dds
- - If you find that this mod slows your system down, then make sure to optimise it by following the advice from the "Stalker - Tweak Guide", link above.
- - Note, that the included version of Stalker Weather Overhaul SWO2.0 is not intented to be used with Float32 shaders, if you are finding issues with these two mods working together, then 1st, check the SWO2.0 Readme (included), then 2nd, try deleting the shaders directory to see if there is any improvement (this is not recomended, as it will completly change the balance of the user.ltx settings and you will also lose all Float32 and SkyGraphics enhancements).
- - To change the Health Overhaul optional settings, open up scriptsabc_medkit.script and set to your taste.

Wow, i haven't tried this mod yet, im busy with stuff, but from what i can see it looks like the next best mod since ABC Inferno which is rather boring once you've completed it. I wish that GSC would release the SDK, but being as the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Modding Community + SDK = Better game than what GSC could make, they will probaly never release.
Overall, it looks brilliant, and i wish i had a better PC to run it on too.
Also, 1 question : The weapons, i cant zoom out and see the stock, i just see from the trigger to the end of the barrel.Is there a way to do that or do i need to increase my Resolution?

I've played a $hit load of mods with this game. In fact I play this game almost every day, I have not played ANY GAME AS MUCH AS THIS. Max Pyane comes kindda close and I can't wait for clear sky. Anyhoo this is without a doubt one of the top 5 mods. Had a problem with the install with light sufaces glaring out and manking the game unpalyable. Its all right now, had to read the install giuide several times to get it through my thick skull, it was a bit complicated. It would be great if you could make a simple exe for any updates. I LOVE THIS MOD!!!!!! Rock

1. Thanks Marco_M, might even recognize some of your textures in there, credit has of course been given, so from me thanks again.

2. Looks Ownage, thanks for your comments and praise. I don't know why the weapons look all funky for you, what resolution are you running on? The default is 1280x1024, but it has also been tested on higher wide screen res aswell.

3. Kasta Rules, 10 times through!! wow, that is impressive.

4. Chevey Freq, yes it is a bit of a system killer, it has been tweaked to max eye candy, you can gain massive performance by switching to static lighting, but you will want to install the SWO2.0 Static dedicated mod, as described in the readme.

You can optimize all the settings to suit your system by following the advice from the tweak guide, here:

5. Gunslinger, thanks for your feedback, This is also the most played game every for me, only BF2 and HL1 even come close.

I plan on a nice installer with plenty of check boxes for different options in the future. Was the glare to do with the user.ltx file? the use of SWO2.0? float32 shaders? are you using the sharper textures 0.95 mod as reccomended by the readme?

6. Shadow Fire, sweet name dude. That was my intent, I want a stalker that is better, not necessarily different. A lot of mods seem to make changes simply because they know how too. I only make changes that improve the gameplay or atmosphere.

7. Denister, This mod is based upon aliVe1.6, which brings back some cut-out mutants, such as the Cat, Chimera and Burer.

I guess the glare was because I did not install the mod right. I deleted everything, read the readme several times and got it rigth on the third goround. KInda hard, in the future include the other levels as everyone may not be as good as you are at this game. After all I'm an old man and my hand shakes LOL.

yo dude first i wanna say great mod but im currently playing priboi story mod and the only thing that really catched my eye was the altered weapon positions (How you hold your weapon in yur hands). could you give me a link to where i can DL it? or tell me which file alters the way you hold yur weapon?.

Man some people are so cool, mostly the one like me who are addicted to S.T.AL.K.E.R. thanks for the link i was so happy i almost cried man... Your mod is well balanced and fun as hell nice touches feels like vanilla meaning its real professional, kickass!!! Party on Garth! For the GFX i simply change the shoc user ltx took the r2 sun parameters and put them in the original and now it runs like butter, plus i turn off all most all programs in the background like Mcafee and azureus, those two take tons of resources, i got 1gig ram so i overclock my 8800 gts and all is good. thanks again for the link much appreciated.Rock

I All most forgot, how do i remove the radiation icon from the hud i like to modify the hud to my liking but since it's an added feature i can do anything with it, being the gun ***** that i am i dont want anything, i mean anything in the way of my babies...

Hey Chev, glad you got the settings to where you are happy.

To remove the Rad bar in the hud, you will need to delete the following files:

gamedata\config\misc\ui_rad.ltx
gamedata\config\ui\ui_custom_msgs.xml
gamedata\config\misc\ui_rad.ltx
gamedata\textures\ui\ui_hud_progress_rad.dds
gamedata\textures\ui\ui_hud_shkala_rad.dds
gamedata\scripts\ui_rad.script

Also you will need to open up (with a text editor):
gamedata\scripts\bind_stalker.script

and delete the following lines:
-- UI Radiation Mod additions
if (ui_rad and self.object) then
ui_rad.update(self.object)
end
-- UI Radiation Mod additions

PS, let me know if this works, I'm pretty sure it should. (I hope smiles don't ruin this post)

Thanks for the help and yeah it worked but sadly your mod wont allowe me to customize the hud to my liking. I cant change the health and armor positions further than the left corner... Go figure ! i cant even take them out. I use stalker uimod final.

ive ran across a bug.
when you enter the wild teritory for the first time you have to (or can) save kruglov.
everything goes ok until you hit the anomaly tunnel. kruglov tells you 2 go first.
ok so i do that. he comes over to the other side. and when hes on the other side he just keeps aiming his mp5 like a retard into the tunnel.

pretty irritating.

dunno if its a bug in yur mod or just a vanilla stalker bug. i think its sumthing with a-life

Yo Chev, apart from the ui rad bar, the hud is controlled by the "hud & blood mod 1.3:"

I'm not surprised that the UI Mod final is not compatible with this. If you d/l it you will be able to see what files/settings it uses and remove it completely back to vanilla hud, then you will be able to customize.

Goat, I've never seen that prob before, id sounds like somthing to do with aliVe and the modded detection settings. best thing to do is to restart that level, by loading the auto-save, soz.

Charal, I take it that you didn't even look at the readme, if you had've you would see this note, it was in a handy spot call IMPORTANT INFO:
- This mod will only work with Eng Launguge, due to custom text entries and custom text strings.

However, there is hope, look at the advice I gave here:

you will have to change the file gamedata\config\localization.ltx to whatever language you prefer, but I can't provide any further advice on the results.

Still the same

i retried the level again but still the same result. he keeps aiming his mp5 down the tunnel. i have the english version and patch 1.0004. i think its something with AliVe
or the combination with the ecologist mod cuzz on the image next to the save kruglov quest in you pda you see kruglov wearing a blue suit while ingame hes wearing a green suit. PLZ help me out here man. i have absolutely NO intensions of shooting kruglov so pleaase dont give me that advice.

I managed to solve my problem with kruglov.
i saved at the point where he aims his mp5 restarted my pc then loaded the save and he continued his way to yantar. : )

Great mod. I have found a bug, when I attempted to talk to the guide he was hostile and I had to kill him. BUT the talk to the guide mission is still there in the pda. I had no chose because he fired on me and showed up red on the map. Strange no? BTW there are several missions that I never saw before, did you add the custom vss & psi suit? again great mod Rock

Goats, glad you found a way around it, I'm not sure why that would happen, it must be to do a detection. I am purplexed when you say Krulov is in a green suit!! he should be in a blue suit and I have just checked the settings, he is set up be in the blue suit. Can you tell me what suit he is in in Yantar?

Gunslinger, that is weird that Guide is hostile to you, have you been killing any nutrels? or anyone in his area? was fox also hostile? the mission is still in the pda because, if guide dies (for any reason) you can buy the same info from trader.

Hes wearing a green one in yantar too.

but al the eco stalkers ARE appearing up so.. i havent had any problems with that.
only that there are a little less Eco Stalkers than i expected .Only 4 near the Scientist bunker and 3 of em got shot by zombo retards.

BTW i went to wild territory BEFORE the x16 quest so that might explain sumthing.

BTW2 i also just wanted 2 say how beutiful the mod is man .since i can run it on high detail. it actually gave me a jolt to frequently play stalker again. and the way al the guns feel is just way more realistic now

Going to yantar early won't effect it. I have it set up slightly differently than eggchen's default settings in Eco Stalker 2.0, where the eco's don't spawn at all until after the yantar lab mission. In reb, they are set to spawn right from the start, so there is always the chance that some will've already been killed in yantar before you arrive. Once you turn off the emitter, they may have a better chance, I haven't really tested this extensively tho.

I have looked at the files, the only way he could have a green suit is if you are missing the following file:
gamedata\textures\act\act_scientist_suit_green.dds

I know the file is called suit_green (as that is it's vanilla name for the green suit), but it has been retextures by eggchen to be a blue suit. If you don't have this file in the your gamedata directory, then the engine will use the vanilla file instead (being green). In which case, just unzip the archive again (to a separate directory) and copy the file across. If you still don't have it, then that is very weird and I will include it in the new patch for you.

Is there any way to remove the little dude in the disable the antenna mission. I'm really stuck and can't progress past the return trip. Fighting the military and the monsters is just too much for me. So If there is a way to remove the monsters without breaking the mod, please let me know. BTW I have gone down to stalker in the options but I think it not working. Thanks confused

Goats, I thought that would've been the case, glad you got it sorted now.

Gun Slinger, I'm not sure what you mean by "little dude." all the extra monster are because of the aliVe1.6 mod's changes to the all.spawn file, so you could edit it to deactivate spawns that you don't like, but you would have to start a new game before the changes would take effect.

There should be nothing stopping the other skill settings from working, as you have deleted the files responsible for de-activating them. You could take a look at this similar query to see if it will help:

Danish, the only way this could've happened is if one of the files has become corrupted.

1. Try unpacking the archive again and seeing if that works.

2. If not, then do a search of your gamedata directory for "all files and folders" and "a word or phrase in the file" looking for wpn_abakac when you find the file it's in open it with a text editor, do a search by pressing ctrl-f looking for wpn_abakac and change it to wpn_abakan

3. if still no-joy then, you may have to d/l it again. You could try the megaupload mirror that is linked in post #2.

You know that you have in the red forest this huge tube like thing surounded by

I used Weather Overhaul before and I've never had this problem. I've since reinstalled the game and now I see this problem. Also there seems to be an odd gray overlay over my screen sometimes when I go to and from the esc menu.

Goats, Thanks for your continued error reporting, I don't know how this happened as I never changed those guys, it is poss due to my implementation of the Eco Stalker 2.0 mod. But it is an easy fix and will now be addressed in next version.

Sum Guy, that is odd! If you are using static lighting, then make sure you've got the SWO2.0 Static Dedicated mod installed. Other things to try, is open the console by pressing the tilde button ~ and entering this command: vid_restart

If that dosn't work, then save, exit to windows and reload.

Chev, glad to hear you've now got Stalker to be the way that you want to play, that is my whole reason for this mod. Also, remember you can easily remove the hud by pressing the minus - key on the numeric keypad.

I really like this mod but i keep having promblems:
1. When it rains colour artifacts appear and i have to sleep for it to go away.
2. the controls have been set for your pc and so i can't get it to go off inverted mouse( keeps reseting itself)
3. sometimes the sound goes out and comes back again.

Still so far it's reall good mod keep it up.

This is a great mod man, it finally got me out of 1.0003 and some of its mods. I'm loving this new weather, fully realized A-Life, AK74SU fitting in my handgun slot...

However, I do have some critiques that you may think about looking into in your next version:

1. The repair mod. Even though you had all the files for repair mod (they were exactly the same when I compared the two), it seems repair only works for 1 NPC, Screw (and even he stopped repairing stuff after about 4 times). Could you get it to be unlocked for all traders? It's annoying to go all the way to the military warehouses to get your stuff fixed...

2. Artifacts. I know you intended to make the artifacts more useful, but it went slightly overboard. Having 16(?) slots for artifacts made things a bit cheap when I realized that I could just get a crystal/fireballs to offset the radiation from about 10-12 stone flowers, which ended up with a 70%+ increase in bullet protection! When wearing a (regular) Stalker Suit, I could actually run up to heavily armed Monolith and Spetsnaz soldiers and stick my knife in their face with minimal loss of health.

Another thing I noticed about the artifacts was that they can be sold as their stated value or even more just about anywhere. As nice as this is, you end up accumulating HUGE amounts of cash from this from simply selling them instead of giving them up for jobs. This presents a problem which is:

3. Traders. The selection of stuff that the traders offer you, even as you unlock more stages of the game, are pretty darn small. Myself, I'm about to go to Yantar for the scis, and I have 400,000 RU just from selling artifacts, guns, and doing odd jobs, and I have been playing for only 5 game days. The lack of ammo (in quantity and different types) is a bit of a letdown too.

Another thing I noticed, which I think was intentional, was the exclusion of being able to 'surf' through jobs (this is done by signing up for a job, then refusing until you reach one that you want). As realistic as this was, it did lead to some problems when after a while all Barkeep could give me was some lame defence and assassination quests, when I had *****loads of artifacts I could have given him.


And some suggestions:

Dr Sunny, if the mod is giving you bad FPS, then I would say that you allready have it installed? To improve performance you could try changing to Static Lighting (if you do, then ensure that you use the SWO2.0 Static Dedicated mod, as detailed in the readme). Incheck, I have not had that prob myself with Krulov, best thing I can suggest for now, is to restart the level from the autosave. If that dosn't work, then when he freezes, save, exit to windows and re-load. Also, the new 1.03 patch should address a lot of NPC erratic behavior, due to .ogg comment errors.

1. You are correct, repairs are only enabled for Screw, this is for balance reasons. If you want to re-activate the other traders repair options, then, open up gamedata\config\gameplay\character_desc_bar.xml, character_desc_escape.xml & character_desc_yantar.xml and find the line of code: <!--<actor_dialog>bar_trader_repair</actor_dialog>--> and remove the comments to make it look like this: <actor_dialog>bar_trader_repair</actor_dialog>

2. The new 1.03 patch will address these artifact exploits, I would be interested in your feedback again once it is out.

3. The traders stock is pretty much vanilla, I have just added in more stuff that I consider to be balanced for a particular amount of progress in game. Deadbodys, now have less food, but I havn't changed the amount of ammo. There is more ammo types later in the game.

allright guys, im kinda in a pickle here really need your help, especially since shadow's on a vacation.

i've spent several hours trying to install stalker - rebalanced with no success.
after completing the instalation i start up the game, it loads up, but just when the intro shortclips (thq etcetc) is about to start up my screen turns black.
i can tell the game and mod is working one way or another, cause i can hear the menu music from my speakers after a few moments.


here's what i do step by step, please correct me if im doing something wrong.

place the gamedata in the stalker directory folder, place the stalker rebalanced.bat, stalkerkeys.exe, stalker.ico in stalker directory folder.
send stalker rebalanced.bat to my desktop (make a shortcut) remove "shortcut to" and ".bat", enter properties on the new renamed stalker-rebalanced shortcut and choose change icon, browse and choose the stalker.ico file

first time i tried to start it up i used the given user.ltx file from the mod, but since that didnt work out for me i tried my original version of user.ltx with worked fine with the regular game.
screen still turns black. i've changed the vid_mode and rs_refresh_60hz in the new user.ltx and the old to all kinds of different settings (shadow told me it might work) but tragiclly nope, still no progress


any help would be greatly appreciated //Frank

Hey there Tanga - One other thing you could try, is to delete the shaders directory that is inside of gamedata. see if that helps. All the steps that you discribed sound correct. (you don't have to use the included .bat file, try running it from your vanilla desktop short-cut).

I installed this mod some days ago and now love this game. Really, I would not play Stalker at all if it wasn't for Rebalanced 1.01 and 1.04. I tried the game after a co-worker told me about it, at first without mods but then regretted getting. I also tried some other mods but did not understand the version vs mod system well enough and just crashed all the time... or then the mods transformed the game completely into something else than the original.

But this is just sweet. No crashes this far after I installed the game with the compatible patch and now it's just like I imagined Stalker could be! I also learned how to mod the game a little myself if I want to just by observing the files in this mod. Now I have absolutely beautiful graphics, the game runs smoothly and I can play the game like I think the makers intended. Basically I feel the mod just enhances the game a lot - instead of changing it to STALKER - GUNMAN WITH UNLIMITED AMMO or STALKER - NEW PLAYERS DIE INSTANTLY.

After i installed this mod When I start the game I get the initial small splashscreen befor the game loads than I get th blue screen of death. There is no spacific info on the stop message on what the prob could be before this mod the game runs perfect. Please help I am using the 1.04 patch you released. And stalker has the 1.006 patch.
