Half Life 2 and Doom 3 content in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? - Rumor Mill

According to a recent story at Shack News, there may be content from Valve's Half Life 2 and ID's Doom 3 in S.T.A.L.K.E.R., in the form of textures and other game files.

Quote:
This week, threads have started showing up on various forums containing what appears to be evidence that GSC Game World's recently released shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl makes use of a number of graphical assets taken directly from commercially released games such as Valve's Half-Life 2 and id Software's Doom 3. Many forum posters are speculating that the assets were used without authorization.

We will keep you updated on this, and as soon as GSC responds with their official statement we will have the news for you.

Check out the Shack News story here.

Due to the original forum post being posted on April Fools Day, things should remain skeptical until official statements are made by GSC, ID, and Valve.

It's funny, when I was in stalker, my eyes were on the transperent blood suckers, the 300 kl snipers, or the wtf type dog things, not light fixtures, or water effects. It seems to me that someone was just looking for reason trash talk stalker. How do we really know that Id software or even Valve were the one's that actualy made those textures, maybe they came from an architecture cd pack, who cares?!

If ID or Valve software were so worried about copyrights, I would think they'd have locked every single file up super tight like Condembed: Criminal Origins is, ever try getting a texture file out of that thing? It's impossible.

The same goes for sounds, although I doubt it's such an issue.

Valve's problem is that they're too lazy to make their own stuff good and finished, so they let everyone else in on the secret to pick up where they wouldn't continue. Ever wondered what spurred the Black Mesa Source mod?

What I do know is that Stalker stole the shotgun sound from Far Cry's automatic shotgun, you know that stupid "blast" then "click" sound. Of course I'm referring to Stalker's Spas 14, go ahead, use it in the game and you'll see what I mean.

"Bang" "Click"
"Bang" "Click"
"Bang" "Cli... oh please
And these two shotguns (Stalker's Spas14 and Far Cry's revolving shotgun)
are both completely different weapons so there's no way in the world they'd both make the same type of sound.

FPS makers, they never do their research on weapons...

Oh and by the way in Stalker, Bulldog Grenade Launcher and the vertical barrelled
shotgun (you can find early in the game) have the same firing sound, that's pathetic. Two Thumbs Down!

People u got to remember that this game had alot of features THQ eventually must have said "You guys are taking too long" and things had to get rushed. After All that is why they have the Mod community to fix all there mistakes they couldnt fix before release.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R completely OWNS Doom 3 in every aspect including Scariness and story line, And It doesn't own HL2 as much but I still think it's a much better game.

Either way I don't really care lol

HL 2 is linear. how lame is that?

not saying its bad, i actually have it, but it gets so... boring. you get the same stuff, shoot the same things, and talk to the same people over and over again. blah.

STALKER, however, is like that, but cooler. i <3 Dragunov SVD!
