Here it is the 45th version of the Weekly Gamefront Network News Update, the news part of the update covers the news side of the Network and the Gamefront Main site over the past week. There has been a fair bit of news from the Main site including a lot of trailers, reviews, previews and a lot more. This week there are lots of trailers, as well as reviews and more. Gamefront News: Activision Extends Call of Duty: Elite Subscriptions By 30 Days After Launch Issues
The launch of Call of Duty: Elite hasn’t gone quite as smoothly as Activision might have wanted. The PC version of the service is still acting a little funny, and users have had trouble accessing the service at all during the first week it has been available to all CoD players.
But rather than say “tough luck” like certain other publishers of a certain other military shooter franchise, Activision is offering its Elite users an additional 30 days of subscription time to premium users to make up for the launch mishaps, according to the official Elite status page. Anybody who purchased the Hardened edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 automatically gets a year subscription to Elite; otherwise, a year of service costs $49.99.
The premium tier of Elite allows players access to things like clan support, contests and prizes and Call of Duty video programming. And even though Elite is kind of screwy right now, Activision maintains that stats for all Modern Warfare 3 players are being saved, even though you can’t see them.
Activision is reporting that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has shattered sales records, bringing in more than $400 million in sales in just North America and the UK in the first 24 hours the game was available. That’s 6.5 million copies sold in those two markets.
The information comes by way of a press release from Activision Blizzard, stating that MW3 has broken the record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops last year with its $360 million in sales, and eclipsed Modern Warfare 2′s sell-through mark for Day One by $90 million.
The release also says that Activision donated $3 million to Veterans Day
Activision announced this morning that in support and gratitude for the efforts of American servicemen and women, this Veterans Day it donated $3 million to the Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit, public benefit corporation that seeks to provide job placement and training for veterans. This latest donation will be added to the $2 million that Activision has already donated to the Endowment, which has provided more than $1.5 million in grants and scholarships to veterans’ organizations across the country since it was conceived by Bobby Kotick in November of 2009
The Call of Duty Endowment is one of the reasons it’s hard to hate Activision for churning out the same product again and again. Created to help returning vets find jobs, it performs an absolutely vital service for our servicemen and women who often face significant difficulties reintegrating into civilian life. And today, Activision has announced a potentially huge grant for the charity: All proceeds from the Modern Warfare 3 soundtrack will benefit the endowment.
Assuming people actually want to buy it – I didn’t find the score that memorable, but opinions can and should vary on that – then get to it because seriously, it’s for a great cause. And, because I know how much you all clamor for press releases, here it is for all to see:
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and celebrated composer Brian Tyler announced today that they will donate all proceeds from the Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 soundtrack to The Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit, public benefit corporation that seeks to help returning soldiers transition back to civilian life, find work and establish careers.

Ok, this is weird. The trailer is called “Life in Constantinople” and yet it takes place in 1511! What the hell? Wasn’t it already Istanbul by then? Actually, no, officially the Ottomans called Istanbul Kostantiniyye, among other names. It wasn’t until the creation of the current Turkish government back in the 20s that, to simplify matters, the Turks asked people within and without Turkey to just use Istanbul (which really just means ‘the city’, making Constantinople the original New York).

You ever try to quit Xbox Live Gold? It’s a lot like trying to drop AOL service – or so I’ve heard, since I have literally never been a member of AOL. You had to call and talk to annoying customer service reps (in fairness, they are only doing their jobs. It’s the requirement, not the person, that’s annoying), and that’s just to disable auto-renew. Well no more. In a new Xbox Live update, you can turn off auto-renewal from inside your account.
The changes are part of a series of XBLA updates being rolled out in the coming weeks. Good for you, Microsoft! Way to make things easier for a change. Now, if you could only consider rolling back those annoying fees?
Remember how Bethesda wanted to have Skyrim’s modding tools, AKA the Creation Kit, ready to roll on launch day? Looks like their reach slightly exceeded their grasp and that means PC gamers will have to wait a bit longer to make all the characters nude. Bethesda’s Pete Hines tweeted the bad news earlier today:

In an interview with Joystiq, Bethesda VP of Marketing Pete Hines stated that, “From a technical standpoint, yes, the PC is a headache. It just is – a million different possibilities of hardware, drivers, etc.”
As an example, Hines pointed to Rage’s disastrous launch.
As you saw with Rage, all it takes is some bad video card drivers and years of hard work comes off as ‘buggy’, when in fact it’s a really solid, stable game.
Of course, no argument against the PC platform can be made without playing the piracy card, so it’s no surprise that Hines brought that up as another issue PC developers face. However, some good news did come out of it:
We do the best we can to protect [the game] without resorting to Draconian measures, and we continue to enthusiastically support our PC fans with things like the Creation Kit and the ability to create and add unlimited amounts of mods and content to your existing PC game.
After reports of a senior designer working on Blizzard’s “Titan” MMO being laid off, further investigations conducted over FaceBook — where all legitimate investigations are conducted — allegedly uncovered an awful truth: hundreds of Blizzard employees were recently laid off.
Blizzard Community Manager Bashiok asserted that, “The speculation circulating about ‘massive layoffs at Blizzard’ is just a rumor.” A second Community Manager, Zarhym, corroborated Bashiok’s statement, adding that it was nothing more than “tons of speculation based on false evidence,” and that “the vast majority [of employees allegedly fired] are at work today.”
Well, golly — I’m torn. Should I trust the word of two reputable employees of a game company that has been involved in no major scandals, or the mass hysteria sparked by pseudo-journalistic investigations?

All summer, gamers have been treated to a marketing battle between EA’s Battlefield 3 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. With the expectations of gamers and the Call of Duty community running high, it’s time to see if Modern Warfare 3 lives up to the hype.

The Call of Duty series has come a long way since it began in 2003. We’ve gone from World War II to modern times, back to WWII, and even into Vietnam and the Cold War. The only constant is the insane amount of copies each installment sells. With Modern Warfare 3, we’re back into Infinity Ward’s vision of the series, and it picks up the story right where Modern Warfare 2 left off.
The world is being torn apart. There’s an ongoing war between the US and Russia spurred on by ultra-nationalists, and you’re going to try to clean things up. As is usual with a Call of Duty title, you’ll be switching between a few main characters as you progress through the story. All the characters you remember from previous titles are still here. Captain Price is here, along with his epic mustache, and the seemingly invincible Soap MacTavish makes his return, although you won’t get the chance to play as him this time around. Nikolai and Yuri are still teamed up with Price as he hunts down the mastermind behind the global hostilities, Makarov.
There’s something to be said about McDonald’s. They may not provide anything particularly nutritious, but the food is always exactly what you expect it to be, and the experience of stepping into one of their locations is identical to any other. That makes things very easy for the hungry consumer who needs to stuff their face with salty fries and enormous cups of soda. That they occasionally add new items to the menu – Filet o’ Fish! McDLT! McRib! – just guarantees that the old, familiar, deeply unhealthy experience has just enough new stuff to keep things feeling fresh, even if the food, you know, isn’t.
Such is the Call of Duty experience. Far and away the most popular first person shooter franchise of all time, the series’ success is built on having literally invented the modern war shooter and then recreated that experience in game after game. It’s always (mostly) fun, always easy to pick up and always delivers exactly the experience you’re paying for, and that’s never been more true than with the latest release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
It’s just that upon completion, Modern Warfare 3 feels something like gobbling down a Big Mac in 5 minutes and then wondering how you can feel so full and yet still be hungry. Its barely-written story and phoned-in acting provides the player with a zero stakes experience. Fortunately, multiplayer itself has been upgraded with some new goodies that actually improve upon previous iterations, and the new and improved Spec-Ops mode is almost worth the price of admission. But it probably should have been called Modern Warfare 2.5.
One of the more anticipated features of Sony’s upcoming Vita handheld is the ability to transfer games from PSP to the new hotness. But it’ll come at a price. All games will have to be re-purchased for Vita, but players who can prove they already own them can get a discount. Yes, that’s kind of lame, Sony.
Apparently, many full price games will cost ¥1,000 ($13, £8) for such transfers. Not bad, I suppose. The full slate of games for transfer won’t be available on day one, but eventually, so Sony says, Square Enix, Capcom and Konami are among the major companies who will eventually be participating in the program. Vita launches in Decemberin Japan, but North Americans and Europeans have to wait until February.
During a keynote at the University of Southern California, Electronic Arts president Frank Gibeau stated, “There is going to be a Battlefield 4.” While a sequel to Battlefield 3 doesn’t come as a surprise, this would have been the first official confirmation of the title.
IGN reached out to EA for comment and received the following response:
Frank was speaking broadly about the Battlefield brand – a brand that EA is deeply passionate about and a fan community that EA is committed to.
Sounds like damage control to me — development may or may not have started on the next installment of the BF series, but one thing that’s clear to everyone is that there will be a sequel. But apparently, EA wasn’t ready to make any official announcements in that regard just yet. Oops.

So according to a screenshot Xbox.com posted on and Xbox.com community blog, Gears of War 3 is on “multiple platforms.” Except it’s actually only on one platform. So what’s going on here? Does this mean that Gears 3 is headed to PC?
No, Epic says. “Gears of War 3 is an Xbox 360-exclusive game, period,” a spokesperson told Eurogamer.
Does that put that to rest? I don’t know. I guess we’ll find out someday. Or we’ll just keep waiting for news forever. I’m very patient.
Speaking at the London Games Conference, Good Old Games MD Guillaume Rambourg said what should be perfectly obvious to anyone with a functional brain, proving that people with functional brains don’t often find themselves in charge of game developers: “Your customers hate DRM”.
I know, shocking, right? But in the scramble to limit piracy and perhaps force people into making purchases they don’t really want – cough online passes cough – gaming companies, much like music and movie companies, forget that making your customers unhappy isn’t great business. Not to mention the fact that, as anyone with a passing understanding of how to work a computer has known since 1999, DRM simply does nothing to prevent piracy, it just inconveniences the inexperienced, a fact Rambourg elaborated on handily:
The reality is DRM does not protect your content. Every game is pirated within a few hours of release or more often before it’s released. DRM is not protecting your product or your sales, it’s going to harm your sales in the long run.”
“By putting DRM in your games you are working against your consumers, you are harming those you should cherish. It’s only hurting your loyal consumers which is counter-productive.”
Like many die-hard Game of Thrones fans who are also enthusiastic gamers, I was disappointed when Game of Thrones: Genesis turned out to be such a dud. The RTS tie-in, from French developers Cyanide Studios, clearly had its heart in the right place — reviewers praised attempts to include diplomacy and subterfuge, two key elements of author George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy series. At the end of the day, though, Cyanide’s small stature and relative inexperience seemed to have gotten the better of it. The licensing deal that led to Game of Thrones: Genesis was inked before the smash-hit HBO show made A Song of Ice and Fire a worldwide sensation, and the French studio’s abilities and resources are more in line with the series’ former status as a best-selling but resolutely niche interest.
With Genesis’ failure in mind, it’s hard not to be skeptical of Cyanide’s forthcoming Game of Thrones RPG, which recently announced a publisher — Atlus Games — and a 2012 release date. Though the studio has secured the rights to assets and voice actors from HBO’s well-financed TV production, A Song of Ice and Fire is a gigantic, engrossing saga, and based on their track record, one wonders if Cyanide can really do the source material justice.
In their defense, the French developers clearly “get” Game of Thrones. The bleak design of the environments and the battered, lived-in feel of the character designs that have appeared in early screenshots feel right at home in Martin’s internecine, pragmatic, cynical world. While promoting the game, Cyanide has cited Planescape: Torment, KOTOR, and Baldur’s Gate II as inspirations. The story will focus on two characters, one a member of the Night Watch, the other a fallen aristocrat returning from exile, bearing a strange new religion. The combat is said to resemble The Witcher 2′s blend of live-action and turn-based gameplay.
To those who have been looking forward to the PC version of L.A. Noire, you may be disappointed to learn that your framerate will be locked at 30 frames per second, not unlike most console ports.
Some of you may be thinking, “So what? If 30 FPS is good enough for consoles, shouldn’t it be good enough for PC?”
Well, yes and no. Some people don’t notice the difference, but many do — 60 FPS delivers a much smoother experience, especially when there’s a lot going on on-screen. For twitch shooters, the difference between 60 and 30 FPS can be the difference between life and death. For a singleplayer game with comparatively little action, like L.A. Noire, the higher framerate is less crucial, but it does mean that PC gamers who invested in a high-end video card will have their performance artificially bottlenecked.

Last night I went to a midnight launch party for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on blu-ray, and little did I know that I could also get a new Lego Harry Potter game today as well. But there it is, Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7. It’s here. Watch this launch trailer:
If I’m going to play co-op in any game, it’s going to be with other people in my living room. That’s just how I roll. So I guess I’m not going to play Mass Effect 3‘s co-op, because producer Jesse Houston says it won’t support local co-op. From a Q&A on the BioWare blog:
Will local co-op be supported? (ie local split screen, PC-LAN)
At the time of release, no. However it is definitely on the table as something we might add.
So they might add it later? Well, I’ll play it someday, then. Cool cool cool cool cool.
Ready for the official release of Minecraft? They’re unveiling it next week at Minecon, but that doesn’t mean a taste isn’t available now. Finally, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has hit the streets, and predictably, the latest iteration of the juggernaut first-person shooter series is seeing record sales. I’ve written quite a bit up to now comparing Modern Warfare 3 to another huge military shooter series’ latest, Battlefield 3, and now that both games are out, we can finally make the best qualitative analysis about them.
So here it is — the final verdict in comparing BF3 and MW3: They’re both great.
And they both suck.
Whether you’re a fanboy for Battlefield or Call of Duty, it’s impossible to deny that both games have multiplayer offerings that are basically solid-gold fun. No matter what you think about CoD, you can’t log into a game and start capping guys and claim it’s not good — there’s a reason this is the biggest-selling franchise in the industry. Modern Warfare 3 delivers high-octane action from the second you enter a game to the second it ends, and even if you hate the community and the rampant 14-year-old demographic that seems to dominate its lobbies, the game itself is highly polished. It might be an incremental update from the last entry in the series and last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2, but that doesn’t mean the framework isn’t incredibly solid. And Modern Warfare 3 packs enough that’s new to take Call of Duty forward in a way that makes it worth diving in yet again, even if we’re all still craving more significant steps into the future.
Ubisoft might be finally learning its lesson about digital rights management.
The publisher has been slapping an always-on Internet connection requirement on its games since last year with the release of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and this year, that DRM has been a bit of a disaster. Ubisoft has confirmed with RPS that it won’t be adding the connection requirement to the PC release of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations when it comes out in December, though. Rejoice.
Ubisoft caught some major flak a few months ago when it released From Dust on PC with a DRM requirement that (at first) required you to be online all the time, even after an Ubisoft rep had said (in an official forum post) that the DRM would not be of the always-on variety. Ubisoft later changed it (after an uproar and [reportedly] refunds being dished out by Steam) to an online activation each time you played — allowing players to start the game online, then take it offline. It later removed the always-on requirement from Driver: San Francisco, too, swapping it for the online activation model used with From Dust.
While that’s some good news on the AC:R front, the bad news is, the PC release is still being delayed two weeks behind the console release of the title. You’ll be able to download AC:R for PC on Dec. 2; on consoles, it’s available on Nov. 15.

It looks like Sony Online Entertainment’s decision to switch DC Universe Online to a F2P model is paying off big time. We already reported there’s apparently been a 1000% increase in the number of DCUO players. Now we have actual numbers to go with that boast. SOE says that one million new people have picked up the game, split evenly between PS3 and PC.

The second DLC pack for Orcs Must Die has been revealed, and it’s the Lost Adventures. All you have to do to find out all about this is to click play on the video below, and then you’ll be set! And this thing is out now, so then you’ll want to go to Steam and get it, you greedy person.
Skyrim’s been out for three and a half hours now, and PC gamers have already been complaining about consolization. The textures are allegedly dated, the UI is consolized, the mouse feels awkward, and the game lacks proper keyboard support.
While I don’t think anyone can say that Skyrim looks bad, graphics are, to an extent, subjective, so we’ll let you judge for yourself. This thread demonstrates the difference between the low and ultra graphics settings. As you can see, textures receive only a marginal increase in quality — whether that quality is good enough is for you to decide.
After playing the game myself, I must corroborate the fact that the UI is indeed consolized — I’d go so far as to call it a hot mess. The interface is clearly not designed to be used with a mouse; creating a character was a painstaking process that involved moving sliders that wouldn’t respond properly to mouse clicks.
Which brings us to the mouse handling. Let me start by saying that, after a series of tweaks, my mouse now behaves the way I want it to. However, before that, it was sluggish and had different sensitivities across the X- and Y-axes — a poor first impression.
Reason number 8000 why you need to buy Saints Row: The Third – the Cherished Memory #9: Genki’s Zombie Stunt Jump trailer. Just one more example of how criznaxy weird this damn game gets. Seriously, you can one-hit-kill people by kicking them in the balls. Also, Tiger driving.
So I’m nearly finished with Saints Row: The Third. And I LOVE it. Seriously, I think it’s going to end up being my favorite game of 2011 (note: not the same thing as saying it’s the best game of 2011). It’s exactly as crazy awesome weird as they promised, I assure you. Anyway, I wanted to get that out of the way before complaining.
Remember last week when Obsidian’s Feargus Urquhart called things like online passes gimmicks? Alas, his opinion is decidedly not destined to become conventional wisdom. As pretty much everyone is now reporting (I was going to wait to mention it until my review, but the news is public so, whatevs), yes Virginia, you will need an online pass to access online co-op and Whored Mode. My review copy included one, and the one you will buy did too.
It’s really just going to be an inconvenience for first-run buyers, since it just requires entering in the code. But all of you who buy a used copy? Screwed city. You’ll be purchasing the pass. Yes, this is weak, especially considering how limited the online component is. Online passes = cheap, developers. Stop it! But you know what? Driving a tiger around town will probably help you forgive them, at little anyway.
Amid all the talk about release numbers flying around for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 (not to mention the annoyingly confusing numbers released for Batman: Arkham City that don’t make clear whether they’re shipped or sold units), I forgot all about another huge-selling title being released last week: Uncharted 3.
Sony didn’t, though, because according to a press release issued by the publisher, Uncharted 3 moved 3.8 million units just on its first day of sales. Now, I haven’t seen the release myself, and after the Warner Bros. release that liberally exchanged the words “sold” and “shipped,” I won’t be burned again. Sony says Uncharted 3 is on-pace to being the best-selling game in the trilogy.
Here’s a substantiated fact, though: Uncharted 3 has been pulling down rave reviews, garnering a 90/100 from our own Ross Lincoln. So maybe almost 4 million Day One sales is something we can believe in. We’ll see.
When the Steam forums were hacked on November 6th, it seemed like a minor inconvenience. Hacking group Fknownd put up ads and sent e-mails to forum users advertising their website.
Today, however, Steam customers received another, more troubling e-mail. Written by Valve CEO Gabe Newell, the missive revealed the hack’s true impact. According to Newell, “intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information.”
The final revelation is obviously the most troubling. Though Newell goes on to assure customers that Steam does not “have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked,” there is a distinct possibility that financial data has indeed been stolen. While Valve doesn’t “have evidence of credit card misuse at this time,” the potential for future misuse is both real and worrisome.
Two titans in the gaming industry are coming together in a partnership that will couple two different spheres of the gamer world: gaming peripherals and tournaments. SteelSeries will work together with Major League Gaming to design a new family of keyboard and mouse peripherals, all of which will be introduced during the 2012 MLG Pro Circuit season.
To kick off the partnership, SteelSeries and MLG are introducing two SteelSeries MLG Edition QcK+ mousepads — one of which is pictured above — that will be available during the MLG 2011 Pro Circuit National Championship in Providence, Rhode Island on November 18-20. I can’t wait to see the StarCraft 2 action — go oGsMC!
Industrygamers has come across a bit of news likely to send people absolutely rushing for the ‘wild speculation’ drawer of their overreaction shelves. After having lost 47 million during Q2, Take Two Interactive plans to $200 million in convertible senior notes that come due in 2016. The reason? “Net proceeds from the sale of the notes will be used for general corporate purposes, which may include acquisitions and other strategic investments.”
You know what this means? Diamond grills for everyone who’s been with the company for more than 5 years. But more seriously, learned speculation is that the vast conglomerate that owns everything from GTA to Civilization is planning to make a new acquisition. Wedbush Securities’ Michael Pachter says “”We think that an acquisition is imminent, and believe Take-Two is likely exploring an investment in the mobile or social games space. We note that digitally delivered content accounted for 25% of net revenue in Q2:12, and management consistently lists digital as a component of the company’s growth strategy.”
That’s a bold move for a company that only just fought off a hostile takeover attempt from Eletronic Arts back in 2009. My guess? They’re going to buy a company that makes mobile games for beepers. Totally old school.
Oh, Team Bondi. So much promise. You gave us L.A. Noire, and also totally screwed over your employees to the point that even Rockstar games, themselves notorious for their scrooge-like treatment of the staff, were chuffed. Then you got sh*tcanned and don’t exist anymore. Such is life.
But all is not lost. Founder Brendan McNamara has hopped right back on that horse and is hard at work on a new game. And if his talk isn’t just bluster, it’ll be a doozie. Speaking to Eurogamer, he claims he’s working on a game that isn’t just going to be superduper awesome, “It’s one of the great untold stories of the twentieth century. So I think it’ll be good.” Well then.
You know what? I totally believe him. I mean, I don’t believe the game is going to get made or anything like that. At least not until I see a trailer. But I bet he’s got something in mind. The only question is, what? Well let’s not waste time not speculating! I bet it’s about the invention of the color photograph. No, wait, that’s lame. I bet it’s about Eugene V. Debbs and the Wobblies. Actually, I would love to play that, so please McNamara, make that be your game, ok?
Do you know what BAM stands for? It stands for “Big Ass Monsters.” Yeah, that sounds pretty good, I’d say. If you haven’t watched this trailer yet you’ll have to take my word for it when I say it looks like these things will f–k you up good. Now watch this trailer and see it for yourself.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim may be the most anticipated game of the season, despite the other major titles that have been releasing lately. Now that the review embargo has lifted, and we’re less than 24 hours from release, it’s time to find out what everyone is saying about Bethesda’s latest effort. Well, it’s shorter than your typical epic launch trailer, but that’s just probably because this is LA Noire launch trailer no. 2, and they didn’t feel like making something bigger. Still, it’s pretty good and exciting, and it makes me want to go back and play it again, perhaps on PC so I can play in 3D. So I guess it gets the job done.
ThinkGeek unveiled earlier this week a Portal 2 collectible: a talking portrait of the Most Fascinating Man Ever, Cave Johnson. Hang it on your wall, and as you walk by, a motion sensor will activate and have Cave speak one of 13 recorded phrases from the game.
Before you ask, yes, the entire lemons rant is in there. And it’s glorious.
Unfortunately, it looks like this collectible is already sold out, but more should be in stock by mid-December, just in time for some Christmas shopping.

With the release date of Saints Row: The Third still a week away, the last thing you’d expect is hype regarding a fourth installment in the series.
However, THQ’s Danny Bilson told G4, “I already know what Saints Row 4 is about, and it is wilder than this one. It’s a good example of how you take what you have and you say, ‘what can happen in the next?’”
What better way to promote the launch of your upcoming game than by overshadowing it with promises that its sequel will be better? Maybe they should include a Saints Row 4 pre-order bonus in all purchases of Saints Row: The Third.

When I started playing Skyrim two weeks ago, I don’t think I knew what I was getting into. Sure, I played Oblivion, like everyone else did, but I wasn’t so enthusiastic about it because it took place in a forest that might as well have been behind my apartment. I don’t go into those woods in real life, so why would I want to go into the generic woods in Oblivion?
Skyrim is a completely different beast. It has snow, for one, which is basically a foreign concept to me, seeing as how I’ve only ever lived in Alabama and Southern California. But it’s not just that. Skyrim truly feels like a foreign land.
It could be argued that Skyrim is actually the central character in the game, full of personality, depth and an amazingly rich history. And snow. The world first begins to reveal its true identity with all the crazy snow, and it continues with glaciers and ice shelves. I spent hours climbing around on glaciers, seriously, because that’s just too cool. Later, I was sent out even further north on ice shelves in search of a crazy man’s igloo, and I was in heaven.
Call of Duty: MW3 Tomorrow is the Big Day!
So much speculation, so much hype, so much gossip, it all comes down to tomorrow. If you're sitting at home, waiting, waiting and waiting some more then you'll have to wait a little longer for the release of Modern Warfare 3 the latest in the Call of Duty series.

A small article from Gamefront with an interesting question about the GTA V Trailer, is GTA V Too Tame when compared to other games such as the earlier versions of GTA as well as similar games including Saints Row series and other similar games!
Rockstar Games has grown up. Grand Theft Auto IV was the first clue that the studio once known for shock humor and excessive violence had done some maturing and was interested in exploring more serious themes as opposed to providing gratification for our animal instincts. To some, this was heralded as a bold new direction, while others felt it betrayed the roots of the series. Now, with Rockstar revealing Grand Theft Auto V, the same worries that GTA is too “tame” have surfaced.
Grand Theft Auto IV was a startling change in direction for the series. While there was still an element of ribald humor, a lot of the satire grew less outrageous and sometimes bordered on biting commentary more than attempts at lighthearted amusement. The main story was a lot darker than we’d been used to — grinning psychopaths and fun-loving bangers were traded out for noble immigrants trying to stay clean in a sleazy underworld of corruption. Funny incidents involving Scottish glam rock stars were replaced with rescue missions involving family members. Even the sandbox violence had been toned down, as protagonist Niko Bellic rarely delivered fatal blows to characters — animations would show them wounded rather than dead. The game went out of its way to make a less sociopathic hero in a less funny world.
Last week the much-anticipated release of the first Grand Theft Auto V trailer had the gaming world abuzz. Hot on the heels of that, Rockstar has released their official announcement of the game. Yeah, it seems a bit backward, but what can you do? The announcement confirms what we thought yesterday, that the game is set in Los Santos, the GTA world’s version of Los Angeles. Here’s what Rockstar had to say.
Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.
A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.
Does this sound like it will be too tame? It sounds OK to me so far. No doubt we’ll hear a lot more about GTA V in the coming months. As always, we’ll keep an ear to the ground and get all the info to you.

Obviously, the whole gaming world has been poring over the just-released GTA V trailer, trying to glean as much about the game as we can with such limited information. We posted our own analysis of the trailer too, and commenter Jonathan noted “when he puts up the for sale sign it says 2405 which might be the release date”.

Another Brilliant article from Gamefront by Ben Richardson, a detailed view of the trailer, although only part of it covered in here though but it is a good review of the trailer and does show a lot of the game!
When Grand Theft Auto V was announced, the news triggered rampant speculation. Would the game sell 25 million copies, as some people claimed? Where would it be set? How would it continue to improve on a franchise with such a long and distinguished history? Without knowing anything about the game, we published a list: “5 Things We Want from GTA V.” Now that there’s a trailer out, we can compare our expectations with reality.
Update: Possible Release Date?
At one point in the trailer, you see a man pounding a “For Sale” sign into the grass in front of a house. Painted on the curb is the address “2405.” As detailed by GameFront’s Ross Lincoln in his post on the possible GTA V release date, Rockstar could indeed be hinting at something, due to their preference for European-style dates (dd/mm/yy).
The November - December JKFiles Weapon Modelling Contest Starts Today!
*EDIT* There seems to have been a little confusion as to the theme of the contest, sorry i should have kept a better eye on the original thread! Therefore i am changing the rules of the contest so that it is now theme free, meaning you can create any weapon you want, from wherever you want!
A contest has been brewing over in our modding forums for a little while now and there seems to have been a lot of interest, so without further ado here are the rules which Raz0r from the forums has helped draw up!
The contest starts today, Wednesday 9th November 2011 and will run until January 1st 2012.
The contest is theme free. This means that you can create whatever weapon you want, from wherever you want!
The weapon must work!
The Weapon must be created by the entrant. You may only submit your own work!
You must follow the JKFiles submission guidelines as normal.
Please do not use model(s) or texture(s) ported from other games to make your Weapon.
You MUST include [CONTEST] before your Weapon's name in the name section when submitting your entry, to avoid confusion and possible accidental disqualification, since we may upload your Hilt thinking it is a normal submission.
Three finalists will be chosen by the staff and the community will be able to vote in a site poll for who they think should win the contest!
Star Trek: Legacy: Everthing must come to an end...
Dear Modders and Gamers,
We've had a great time altogether and we've achieved some great mods and pushed Legacy to a new level of gaming. I remember, when I posted my first mod on STL-Files. The mods were, well, not that high quality, but everyone starts somewhere. As time went on, our knowledge of the game's functions increased, our modding-techniques improved and our mods got better and better. I think we can predicate with a clear conscience, that we've pushed the envelope of Legacy. The sad part of such projects is, that they all come to an end.
That's as things go, but, as the saying goes, life goes on. (I know, some won't believe it), but we modders and gamers have real lives as well and sometimes you have to prioritize and of course real life comes first. I'm sure you all agree with me there. We are students and employees, who spend their free-time with modding games.
The point is, that our amount of free-time isn't growing and maybe you've already realized, that the delay between our modding-updates has increased over the last year. As we simply don't have the time anymore, we've decided to stop modding. But we were of the same opinion, that we don't want to let it end without any words and leaving you in the dark. Therefore we've decided to say good bye with a last farewell letter to the community.
You have earned it the other way round. We have some more or less finished material laying around here, which will be released and you will still be able to contact us via E-Mail for permission requests of course.
So the NG|Mods-Team says now good bye to you and we wish you all the best for the future and YOUR real lives. Maybe we'll meet again in future, who knows? Therefore, see you soon.

Apprentice, you seem to be labouring under the false impression that the staff can actually do anything about these bugs.
The Break.com tech team are the ones who are dealing with them, bugs are reported through the proper chain of command and end up with the tech team. We the staff can do absolutely nothing about them, so there is no use hijacking a news item such as this just to complain to us.
You have absolutely no idea whatsoever what we deal with to get content like this out to you and you also have no idea how much work the Break.com tech team have actually done thus far. We just do our best to work around the bugs that still remain.
Email your concerns to the proper authorities. There should be contact information for the Network Admins and the Community Manager in the staff section of most sites. They can then relay your concerns higher up the chain. This news item on wich Danny has worked very hard is not the appropriate place to be complaining.

please see it from our perspective.
Ever since the Network was sold or ma I say doomed the first time WE the users are waiting for the bugs to go away. Naturally this is frustrating.
This Network has a lot catching up to do, and I understand that it can work with break media, but non the less all we see here are empty promises that take months to actually come true if at all.
The essential functions must work, or the Network remains useless.
And while we are at it, why is there no support for Independent Studios, or have I just not found such a section yet ?

@Chrissstrahl - Believe me, the staff are just as frustrated as you are! We actually have more bugs to deal with than the ordinary user, but things are being fixed slowly but surely, so do not give up hope!
Anyway, rather than derail Danny's excellent work here on the Network Update, i would suggest that if anyone wants to discuss these matters they create a thread in the forums or in the help section where it can be kept in the proper place or to contact trhe Network Admins with their concerns!

You have been singing the same old song for the past 2,5 years now. I and I'm quite sure others with me, are a tired of the melody just as you would be if you were to hear the same song over and over and over again.
I can only hope that Break media will come to their senses and will axe the network just like Ziff Davis did because after two years, I cannot see any improvement here . . .

Apprentice - I am only a volunteer for this website, I do this in my own time, like most of the others on here including Nozyspy. While some of us have been long time staff members, we do know that there are problems and bugs, as i said in the insider the Break IT Team do know about them and are looking into them, even though it looks like they aren't doing anything! (they are )
Also please don't take this the wrong way but this isn't the place for comments about the bug fixes, I have no access or the knowledge to fix them, that is what the tech team is for Also there is a forum that you can post your concerns on this. I'm not trying to take this out on you but using the insider to attack the network isn't the best place, after all what can i do?

#5 We do not have support for independent studios on the network atm but we do on the main site. That is certainly something we would look at in future network upgrades. It would help a lot if you could throw some examples together for what you have in mind the Network@filefront.com and I will make sure they are passed along.
We do welcome all ideas regarding what people want to see on the whole of the Gamefront network of sites.
#7 Sorry but I have tried the nice approach with you in public and in private and it seems it has fallen on deaf ears. You state that the staff are singing the same old song over and over again but you are far more guilty of that. I am tired of BS that you bring to the network in places it should not be. I have asked you nicely and now so has Danny to take your questions to the forums. They are not independent of the network so I do not see why you have a objection to doing that.
Again the few or the one are detracting from the great work that others have done on the network be it staff or member. As I have said before I will not allow this to happen any more. Questions or comment posted in the proper place will be answered but this is not the proper place.
I will not allow harassment of the volunteer staff (and we are all volunteer staff) to any degree and as a result of Apprentices blatant disregard of friendly warning all comments on network wide items will be locked.
If you do persist in posting unrelated comments outside of the proper place you will be removed.
