S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Still being Worked on - Official News Posted by: FFxSTALKERx on 01-20-2012 @ 12:05
This News Item has been viewed 3041 times! This news announcement brought to you buy "Late to the Party News Service, Posting news several weeks after it happens since 1845". Sorry for the delay.
At the end of last year we had the sad news that GSC Game World was closing down and developement on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was being halted and the game cancelled.
Then we got word that some time in January some new news would be coming out and updates on what is happening would tell us the fate of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series.
Well, there is hope since the guys at GSC are still working on the game. Some things are still uncertain but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

RIP GSC Game World 1995-2011 (?) - Rumor Mill Posted by: FFxSTALKERx on 12-10-2011 @ 09:20
This News Item has been viewed 6386 times! It's pretty much Official at this point (Official Word from GSC coming Monday, 12/11) but it seems GSC Game World is closed for good.
In a blog by 1C Ukraine's Sergey Galenkin he details some of what appears to have happened.
Quote:GSC is no more. Almost everyone is let go, only few people left and still employed. STALKER 2 project is closed.
My friends at GSC believe that the reason for that is failed console publishing deal. GSC couldn’t sign any publisher for STALKER 2 on consoles, and GSC wasn’t strong enough to do it all by itself. STALKER 2 was going to become PC exlcusive, which isn’t a great future for story-driven game.
Some say that Grigorovich demanded a lot from publishers and his terms were unacceptable, some say that publishers didn’t like setting – Eastern European postapocalypse is not that popular outside Europe. I don’t know which is true, but guess it is a bit of both.
Also, some people at GSC say that Grigorovich wasn’t happy with quality of STALKER 2, but others say it was going to be a great game and huge improvement over first one. One guy said that Grigorovich was tired of game development and no longer interested in STALKER at all, but I don’t believe it, knowing Sergey for last ten years. He might be tired, yes, but he loved STALKER.
I want to make sure it's clear that as of right now, all of this is unofficial and taken by someone who isn't a GSC Employee but it seems to be the best info we have right now.
For the Full version of the blog post (It's translated into English at the bottom of the page) go here.
On Monday we should get some Official Word from GSC on what is going on and the future of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series.
I for one don't see it dying here. There are books, clothing, movies and TV Shows that were being made in addition to the games themselves. Hopefully someone is able to pick up the IP and do it proper justice.
GSC Closed it's doors today?? The Rumor Mill Runs Wild. - Rumor Mill Posted by: FFxSTALKERx on 12-09-2011 @ 10:23
This News Item has been viewed 6309 times! In what might be the worst Christmas Present ever given, GSC might be closed for good.
Earlier today a Ukrainian News Site (UkraNews) posted that GSC Game World has shut down by owner Sergei Grigorovich. This was apparently told to the staff earlier today. At the time of posting, only Google Translations of the article were available for the English Speaking world but several sites (Rock Paper Shotgun and PC Gamer) had posted about it.
Shortly thereafter GSCStalker's Official Twitter posted a denial saying GSC wasn't closing but that has since been removed
In the most recent development (via RPS) a non-GSC employee, Dmitri Bourkovski tweeted, "Not PR. GSC closed.". Mr. Bourkovski is apparently a personal friend or acquaintance of GSC's CEO, Sergei Grigorovich.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun has reached out to GSC for Official comment and got a "Sorry, no comments at this point." reply.
Things arn't looking so good in The Zone right now.
We'll keep you updated with the latest news as we learn it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 DRM Not Yet Decided. - Official News Posted by: FFxSTALKERx on 10-10-2011 @ 20:11
This News Item has been viewed 12091 times! In response to the recent reports that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will require a constant Internet Connection (and the backlash from the community) GSC has stated that the DRM options for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 are not yet decided and the constant Internet Connection is just one of the options on the table.
Quote:The idea of implementing DRM came in as a possible anti-piracy solution. You know the severe level of commercial piracy we have here in ex-USSR region. This said however, there is no firm decision to go for DRM with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 as of now. Be assured, we do realize how uncomfortable this solution is for the players, so we’ll continue looking for most effective, yet acceptable for all, way of protecting the game by the time of its release.
More S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Details Emerge! - Official News Posted by: FFxSTALKERx on 10-08-2011 @ 19:19
This News Item has been viewed 12721 times! Some new details have emerged (thanks to NeoGaf Forum Member subversus for listing them in English) from the recent interview GSC gave.
Quote:-they do not use military experts but visit military forums often to gather info about weapons. The game doesn't aim for complete realism.
-TV series are postponed, a full-feature movie will be released first.
-they don't outsorce much but some stuff is outsorced like animation for example. They do object physics in-house but have Havok licensed.
-There will be Strelok
-There is high chance that X360 version will be released but PS3 version is unlikely even though they have it running. It will depend on what state it will be in at the moment of release.
-It was mostly their decision to cut content from SOC even though they are flattered by their fans blaming the publisher. But it wasn't the case, these areas just weren't up to snuff.
-no Hollywod stuff, the focus is on authenticity (read atmosphere won't change much)
-they are not that excited about special effects like motion blur. He said that stuff like that + narrow FOV could affect a cerebellum negatively so they will decide what effects will stay at the polishing phase. It's all about realism again.
-they haven't decided yet if they ship with multiplayer or not but they want to make it special if they do.
-the team is about 60 people
-the game will look different but still realistic as it is their main focus. They want to build a good post-soviet atmosphere
-they don't talk with Metro 2033 team (still seems bitter about their departure)
-they will start releasing media in 6 months before the release.
-they were building the engine for a year because "it would take a year to learn a licensed engine" so they decided to build their own engine to render post-soviet stuff in a proper fashion
-the engine won't be licensed, it will be free. There are bigger companies that license their engine so they see no use in competing with them.
-it's their bestselling game obviously and they have 65 books released. They are planning to send these numbers t Guiness as a longest fiction series for a videogame or something like that.
-system requirements won't be low as they focus on graphics.
-the game is out in 2012

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Will Require a Permanent Internet Connection? - Official News Posted by: FFxSTALKERx on 10-07-2011 @ 20:04
This News Item has been viewed 12453 times! It looks like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 may require a permanent connection to the Internet when it releases some time in 2012.
In a recent interview (which you an read/listen to if you know Russian) Sergey Grigorovich said that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will require a permanent connection to the Internet.
Quote:“Protection from piracy? Part of the content will be located on the server and downloaded as the game progresses. Permanent internet access is required. Text information, code and quests will be loaded through that connection. Software piracy is an issue for us, we try to fight it, but within reason.
If people can not afford a licensed version, it is to our advantage if they download a pirated copy, and then want to buy a license. In Ukraine, there are different products that people love so much that they buy a license in principle. We want to create just such a product.”
This is understandable, especially considering that Eastern Europe has some of the highest piracy rates in the World it isn't something that we at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Files really want to see become mainstream in PC Gaming. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a long ways from release and this may change by the time we get our hands on it.
The question is, will you still buy it if you need to be connected to the Internet at all times?

It was pretty good but I have to answer ''Didn't care''. First of all, what's up with delaying every good game (Tomb Raider, Hitman and perhaps Far Cry 3)? Second of all,.... seriously. Delaying games? Blasphemy! Oh, right. Now I remember. What's up with lack of stalker 2 presentation? I had this feeling about couple of games till now and they all turned out to be average not worthy of playing. Stalker 2 better not be one of those. O_O
K, thats all from me.
God Bless.

#2 - NO! - Posted by: Fluffy22 (Member) on 05-18-2011 at 19:21
Some of us, due to crap graphic cards, and not enough money to replace them/buy a new computer, actually enjoy Stalker in dx8/dx9 mode.
Also, nothing gives Stalker that dark gritty atmosphere like dx8 lighting.
Besides, no other engine other than Xray could handle the Stalker ALifes systems, and I trust GSC to come up with a new engine worthy of Stalker.
Bout the only poll I've ever voted on here, since it actually is worth my time to click on the vote button.

What the sh*t? It asked me if I love COP Complete and I vote yes, now it says I voted for putting it on Frostbite engine?
Hell no. XRay Engine. And please, no console ports. Do not compromise gameplay experience just for graphics (which are already pretty damn amazing)!
On the other hand, STALKER needs an update on its player models and animations. Those IMO are its only weak links in the graphics department.
#4 - Posted by: Amez (Member) on 06-01-2011 at 21:21
Only the X-Ray engine has the proper capabilities to make STALKER what it is, and Frostbite is no exception.
I wouldn't mind STALKER being on consoles along with PC, as long as they port it from PC to consoles, not the other way around.
