Oleg Yavorsky recently spoke with VideoGamer.com and mentioned the possibility of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Universe expanding into the MMO realm.

Quote:
GSC Game World, the Ukrainian developer behind last year's surprisingly good open world FPS survival horror S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl is "looking into" making an MMO style game out of the franchise.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a press event for the upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl prequel, Clear Sky, GSC Game World's Oleg Yavorsky said that the team is currently "considering different options", including pairing with a developer that has MMO experience, but "hasn't started anything there yet".

I dont know, I think it might be kinda fun. As long as you dont have to pay $15 a month to play.

Maybe when our bandwidth and computer rendering capabilities have improved. Imagining accurate weapon ballistics and player scripting on an MMO would be a nightmare given the structure of our current IP revision. Hopefully when IP 7 protocol emerges, we can expect progression on what would now be an overly-ambitious endeavor. Knowing GSC though, they don't understand the concept of being too ambitious lol. I suppose that's why STALKER is so great today.

i would love to see an MMO stalker, i mean, how much fun would it be to have hundreds of players teaming up and waging war on one another? of course they would have to take into account the countless noobs that would try like hell to shoot friendlies. not only that but there would have to be some serious anticheat program to level the playing field from hackers and noobs (when in all reality, cheaters ARE noobs)

as long as the core gameplay stays the same I think it would be pretty awesome.

Hmmm, personally Id just stick to SoC and CS really, but I might consider playing a MMO if made.

"Looking into" doesn't bother me the least bit, it likely means nothing.

That would be ... interesting. I imagine it would work on some system of small servers with a few hundred stalkers - of course, you would need to create an account system using a code from your game, or something, to stop idiots ruining it (read: all MMPORGs). That would be amazing, as long as the gameplay, as everyone says, stays the same - artefacts, anomalies, mutants, factions and guns. I would sacrifice dynamic lighting for that.

They should just make a more refined multiplayer with co-op persistent worlds people can host for up to 16 people. It should keep track of where you log out so if you just quit in the middle of a dangerous area and you come back you might come back to find your guy dead or with a lot of his stuff stolen. To avoid this you'd have to find a camp site and log out there. And night time should be really dangerous so you have to find a good spot to camp, preferably with other people so you can hold off the monsters together.
